Country Roses Four Patch Quilt

Country Roses Four Patch Quilt

I wanted to make a quilt for a very special lady for her birthday. She grew up in the country and so I wished to include some ginghams and tans, as I think it always gives a lovely country feel.  My initial inspiration for this Country Roses Four Patch Quilt was from a quilt I saw made by Robyn Pandolph.   I realised once agin the simplicity of a four patch works just as well with big four patches as it does with small ones.  See more about Robyn Pandolf Design Studio here at www.robynpandolph.com/  Her quilt was very feminine and decorated with a lot of appliqué on the outside. I wanted a feminine quilt but definitely no appliqué. I just wanted to use 5″ charm squares and of course roses.

The simplicity of using big four patches, is brilliant. When you have beautiful fabrics, then you can use bigger pieces. You want to show them off. Give them a beautiful frame to show their beauty.

This is what I came up with.

I looked into my stash for this quilt and cut up 5″ charm squares from mostly pink, red and tan/gold fabrics.   I included gingham a in red and pink.  The design is simple yet effective and I think it would work well in any colour way.

I’ve found over the years, I come back to the same things. In nature I love roses and garden inspiration.  That’s why Iove to include rose and floral fabrics in my quilts.

I free motion quilted it, with daisies, on a vintage Singer sewing machine.
