Old Italian Blocks Quilt Finish
Hello my Dear Friends and Readers,
Isn’t it a wonderful feeling when a quilt is finally finished and it’s time to give it to the person intended. I made this quilt for my second son and I think he was pretty chuffed. There is a lot of love in all the stitching we do, I believe. This quilt is no exception. It is a good size and I am sure he will put it to good use. My inspirations were from Antique quilts I have admired and the fabrics I chose are reminiscent of the kinds of shirts he tends to wear. He likes colour and has chosen some beautiful designs at times so that is why l looked to some small and medium modern florals as well as some stripes, paisley and plaids which I think reflect his style and personality. All the fabrics I found from my stash. Another inspiration is that he learned Italian when he was younger, so it seems appropriate…..
The pattern is called Old Italian Block. Here is the link to the blocks.

The quilting is one of my favorite designs to quilt.
I call it Egg Flower Quilting. Here is a link to how it is done.

It is a way of doing an overall design on a domestic machine. I have discussed before how it is helpful to stitch in a manner where there is both forward and backward or clockwise and anticlockwise movements to prevent buckling of the fabric. You can read more about that here and how I quilted the border.

Now the quilt has been given a good overall texture. I love the way the light falls on the quilting.
For the binding, I used the same small red/cream check which is used in all of the cornerstones of the sashing.
And just to add to the finish, here is a picture of the happy recipient.
A wonderful young man, Alex, who has become a Physician. I’m a proud Mama!
