What’s Cooking?…Home-Made Sausage Rolls.
I have to say I’m not too keen on commercial sausage rolls but making them at home is fun and delicious and relatively inexpensive. Great for parties or anytime really! I like to make them nice and tasty and a bit more nutritious than a bought one? They are delish and pretty irresistible when the come out of the oven puffed and sizzling and smelling divine.
This is how I do it.
Ingredients
400 g quality sausage meat
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 egg
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
1 red onion, finely diced
freshly ground black pepper
salt to taste
2 sheets of puff pastry
Method
Put the sausage meat, herbs, egg, onion, soy sauce and seasonings in a medium bowl. mix the ingredients together well. Cover and refrigerate until required. Prepare a large biscuit tray with baking paper. Set oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
Lay out the 2 sheets of puff pastry on a clean board or bench top. Allow to thaw. Score each piece of pastry once down the centre. Now you have 4 pieces. Divide the meat mixture evenly along the centres of the four lengths of pastry. Bring the pastry up along each long side so that the pastry overlaps in the middle. you may need to stretch it a little.
Turn each log over, so that the seam of the pastry is underneath, and with a sharp knife, carefully cut each roll into 6 equal pieces. Lay in rows on the biscuit tray.
Bake for about 20 minutes or until, golden and sizzling!
I will be trying these…I love the idea of the spices in them.
