Antique One Patch Quilt aka Disappearing Nine Patch
In a previous post I showed my Antique One Patch Blocks. Its been really enjoyable putting these scraps together and as my friend Lyn pointed out, one could readily adapt this design to a particular colourway like blues or pinks and it would be lovely too.
I particularly love the play of light and dark in this quilt top.
Here is a link to the blocks.
Antique One Patch Block Made Easy
I used a mixture of blues, browns, reds/pinks and golds.
The size is easily adaptable both by number of blocks or the initial size of the blocks.
All seams based on 1/4″.
Quilt size 58 1/2″ x 71 1/2″

Requirements for the Antique One Patch Quilt
Method of Construction
Sew the 80 units together in an eight by ten configuration, ensuring that all of the units are facing in the same direction.
To even out the design, now make two strips from the 19 of 2 1/2″ by 2 1/2″ squares and 18 of the 5″ by 2 1/2″ dark scraps.
Make one strip alternating 2 1/2″ squares and the 5″ x 2 1/2″ dark units. For the long side make a strip of alternating pieces (10 of each).
This treadle is from 1902.
For the short side make the second strip beginning and ending with a 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ light square (9 in total), and alternating with 5″ x 2 1/2″ dark pieces (use 8). Attach to the short side of the quilt which does not have the narrow border. See below.
For the cream border, from the 6 of 2 1/2″ WOF strips, make two of 67 1/2″lengths for the long sides. Make two lengths of 58 1/2″ for the short ends of the quilt.
Attach the light strips to the quilt. Pin carefully to ensure the strips are evenly placed before sewing.
Carefully press the top and prepare for quilting.
