This Charm Squares Stars quilt I made for my daughter. Her only brief was for purple. Mine was to quilt some stars. I gave this quilt some considerable thought before I commenced. I looked deep into my fabric stash for purples, which I discovered, there were not that many. It’s interesting how looking for something becomes a journey of discovery in itself. Eventually I came up with enough fabrics and an idea to commence construction.
Again I have incorporated 5″ squares (charm squares) to make the initial nine patch star units. The major fabric is a purple gingham. Ginghams look fantastic in quilts. They combine well with all sorts of fabrics. In this quilt, the purple gingham anchors all the fabrics.
I sashed the nine patch units and incorporated a little gingham into the cornerstones.
The background fabric is white and yellow, which contrasts sharply with all the other fabrics in the quilt.
I made the the remainder stars for the border with the leftovers from the nine patch stars. The quilt was backed with the gingham fabric, incorporating a lonely star left from the block making.
I quilted this quilt at home on a domestic sewing machine, with a swirling love hearts design. Click the link below to the free pattern.
