As most of you will know by now, I do love floral fabrics.  I’m inspired to make a coin quilt using floral fabrics.  I decided to make Coin Blocks.  The reason is to keep the columns straight.

I learned my lessons making this quilt.

Japanese Inspired Strip Quilt

In all honesty, I’ve really enjoyed piecing this quilt.    And its super quick.  It will be a perfect size for a Baby Quilt, a small Lap Quilt or a Charity Quilt.

I hope you enjoy it too.

Finished quilt size 40 1/2” x 48 1/2”

Finished block size 4 1/2” x 8 1/2”

All seams based on 1/4”.

This is how I did it.

Requirements for the Floral Coins Quilt Antique Style

25 of the Floral Coins Blocks (access instructions in the link to the blocks above)
102 extra assorted floral rectangles 4 1/2” x  2 1/2”
4 of 2 1/2” WOF (Width of Fabric) strips with a white background, plain or sparsely printed for the first border

Method for the Floral Coins Quilt Antique Style

Sew the 25 Floral Coins Blocks into five columns of five blocks each as pictured below.  Each column will have 20 units.  Press the strips.

Take 60 of the additional rectangles and sew them short end to short end to make 6 of 2 1/2” strips of 10 units each.

Lay out the Floral Coin Block Strips alternating with the narrow 2 1/2” strips, beginning and ending with a narrow strip.  Lay them out ensuring that no two same fabrics are adjacent to each other and that the seam allowances will nest.

Sew the strips together, beginning and ending with the 2 1/2” strip.

Press the top.

Check measure through the quilt top.  It should be 32 1/2 x 40 1/2”.

Cut two of the 1st border white strips to 40 1’2”  Sew them to the long sides of the quilt.  Cut the second two strips to 36 1/2”.  Sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt.

Use the remainder 42 of 2 1/2” x 4 1/2” to make the second border.

Join 9 of the 4 1/2” rectangles sort end to short end.  Sew to one short side.  Repeat for the opposing side.

Make 2 more strips in the same way from the remaining 24 rectangles.  Sew two sets of 12.  Sew them to each long side of the quilt top.
