What’s Cooking? … Baked Figs with Haloumi

Baked figs with Haloumi.  Yum! Something a little bit different.  I’m lucky enough to have some figs at the moment.  Figs easily lend themselves to sweet or savoury dishes.  I had some Haloumi on hand and I thought why not combine the two.

This dish makes an easy side dish.  It could be served with any meat dish, roast, barbecue or as an addition to a salad, warm salad or vegetarian meal or pasta.  It is super quick to prepare.

This is how I did it

Ingredients

Ripe figs
Haloumi
1 tablespoon olive oil

Ground black pepper

Method

Set oven to 180 degrees Celsius.  Spread the oil in the base of a baking pan.  Gently wipe or wash the figs.  Cut in half.  put straight into baking pan cut side up.  slice the Haloumi cheese to about 1/2 cm thick.

Put a piece of Haloumi on top go each fig.  Season with a little ground black pepper.  put in the oven and bake for about 20 minutes until the Haloumi is golden.  serve immediately.
