Scrap Double Four Patch Quilt Block Tutorial

Scrap Double Four Patch Quilt Block Tutorial

Hello Dear Friends and Readers, today I have this fabulous yet simple block you can readily use for your scraps.

Once I finish a project I like to cut up the scraps into usable sized pieces.  I generally cut squares and sometimes strips.  I cut whatever sized squares I can get out of the fabric.  It’s surprising how these pieces can accumulate just from scraps.

For this block I am using 1 1/2″ squares and 2 1/2″ squares of fabric scraps.

This makes a very cute block which is easy to construct.  All seams based on 1/4″

This yields a 4 1/2″ block.

Requirements for the block

8 x 1 1/2″ squares in 2 contrasting colors

2 x 2 1/2″ squares

Construction of the Block

Sew the 1 1/2″ squares together in sets of 2, one of each fabric.

Then sew two sets of two together ensuring that the Center seams are nested.  Finger press.

image

Lay out the block.  Make sure the four patches follow a direction. Alternating with the 2 1/2″ squares.  Then sew the little four patches to the 2 1/2″ squares.

Press and trim the block if necessary.  Make some more!

There are infinite ways these blocks could be used. Down the track I will show you how I’m setting mine….but that’s another story….

Happy scrap sewing!

    1. Dear Donna, Thank you so much for your interest. As a matter of fact I have. I have set them into a rather good block. Stay tune. I will be posting as soon as I am able. Susie

  1. Hi Susie
The pattern that I was wanting to make was the charm square 4 patch quilt that was posted on November 13/14. (Your initial inspiration for this four patch charm square quilt was from one made by Robyn Pandolph.). I have only made 2 quilts this would be my third, so I would need a little more instructions than you provided. My first 2 turned out beautifully.I have been sewing for a long time, but have just started to quilt, AND I LOVE IT!!!!! Would love to make this as a wedding gift for my daughter.

      1. Thank you!!
I can’t wait to start. I have a beautiful collection of fabrics, I am going to make it king size. I love your site, and check it every morning.
