Baby Love Quilt and Pattern
When a lovely young colleague of mine announced that she was expecting, of course, I was keen to make her a quilt for her new arrival. Having a baby is, after all, a very special life event. When I was thinking about the design of the quilt I wanted it to represent something special about Mother and Child. I thought about the child in utero and the love a mother has for her baby and that was how I came up with the idea of the heart inside a heart. The small baby heart to represent the baby, wrapped in the big heart of her Mother.
This is a quilt made for a baby girl. I thought for a little girl, pastel florals would work well.
I think this design would work equally well with brights, novelty prints, a single colour or very scrappy quilt. It would be adorable in plaids too.
Incidentally I pieced this quilt on my Singer 66 Lotus Treadle C 1923. Such a pretty machine.
More about this machine here.

I’m making this quilt now. It’s lovely.
I can’t wait to give this to a friend’s son and daughter-in-law for their baby girl.
Thanks for sharing this pattern.
Hi can I print the baby love quilt
Yes of course, just forward to your printer or press Control + P
Very nice. I like the size of this better than the Lone Star. I prefer to make larger baby quilts so they are at least around through the toddler dragging years
Help! I have 2 4-1/2 x 32-1/2 strips if background fabric that I do not see where they should be placed. I have 12 rows and used 2 as rows 2 and 11. Please advise!
Same thing happened to me! I think I will add them to top and bottom so essentially will become row 1 and 14. Might cut them down so they become border like the sides….maybe 3 inches.
Thanks, Lisa! I did not use them, but that was a good idea!
I have the scraps…now if I can find the time! 🙂 I love this pattern!
What a great quilt! I’ve added this to my ever-lengthening list of quilts to make. 😉
Just what I love! Intelligent scrapping–aka something I could manage to do. It is beautiful and I await the next installment. Thanks you a bunch.
Dear Judy. That’s such a pleasure. Part 2 is now published. Enjoy!
