Four Patch Table Mat
This is a super quick project which you can whip up from leftovers in no time. It can also be a good opportunity to test out some FMQ ??? Or not….
Obviously, this can be adjusted in size according to your need or fabric. This self binding technique will improve efficiency. A nice quick addition to your table or gift (add an artisanal sourdough loaf or posy of flowers) for a perfect partner.
In this instance, I have used some of my precut 5″ squares…
Obsession with Pre Cuts / Make Your Own
This is how I do it.
Sew four of 5″x 5″ squares into a four patch. That would make a block of 9 1/2″ square. Cut a square of fabric at least 2″ larger all around, 13 1/2″ square. Cut a square of batting a little larger than the 9 1/2″ square.
Lay the 13 1/2″ fabric square wrong side up. Centre the batting. Centre the four patch, right side up. Pin the three layers together. Quilt as desired. Trim back the batting. Fold in the backing in to meet the edge of the batting and four patch. Fold forward again, mitiring the corners as you go. Machine top stitch in place. That’s it! I made this one for my son, hence the boy colours. Don’t you just love those poppies opening up?
