Scrunchie – Free Tutorial

Scrunchies are easy to make.  Great for tying up hair but also good for hanging up towels.  (see previous post on Hand Towel Scrunchie)

Take one 5″ Width Of Fabric (WOF).  Sometimes this is also known as the size from a dessert roll.  That is approximately 42″ x 5″. Plus 1 piece of elastic approximately 10″ long.

Fold right sides together and stitch 1/4″ in, beginning about 3″ down the strip and ending 3″ before the end.

Turn the piece to the right side.  You can use a safety pin if you like to help feed the fabric through.

Now open up the unstitched ends making sure the strip is straight and not twisted.  Line up the two ends together, right sides together. Stitch 3/8″ seam allowance.  Now you have a circle..

Feed the elastic through the open hole using a safety pin until it comes out the other side.  Bring the elastic together and overlap so the it is now a continuous circle.  Zig zag stitch together.

Pin the opening closed.  Top stitch by machine or hand stitch to close the opening.  Done!

Use them for hair or for any where you need to hang a towel 🙂
