Patched and Twisted Scarf Tutorial
Scarves make fantastic wardrobe additions. They are usually small and lightweight, but they can be just the thing to make an outfit come together and add a little warmth or protection from the sun especially to the delicate skin of the neck and décolletage.
A scarf which has been patchworked became an appealing idea. I thought it would be a nice way to incorporate a colour story with quilting cottons. For example, tan brown, blues, pinks, creams or really whatever takes your fancy! I must say I do have a liking for blocks on point, and this part of the inspiration for this Tutorial with a twist!
All seams based on 1/4″.
Requirement for one scarf
36 of 5″ x 5″ squares in the colors you choose.
Method
Pair up the squares with even distribution and contrast of colours.
Chain sew the squares together. Do not snip them apart.
Then, Stitch all the rows together to make it one long piece.
In between I am still working on my postage stamp blocks.
Once the strip of squares is completed, press
Now the side seam will be sewn in a twist. It might seem bit strange, but it will come together, I promise.
Now take two squares of one end and fold right sides together. Sew down to make a point.
Now fold one edge of the fabric, right sides together toward the new edge.
Pin in place and continue along the whole length until the last square. You will have to keep twisting the scarf to follow the long edge. Sew the seam. Adjust the fabric regularly with each block.
Stop sewing 1/4″ from the end. Now turn in one side of the remaining seam. Sew in place. See there is one part of the end which is open. Turn the scarf to the right side through the opening.
Slip stitch the opening closed. Then press the scarf. Wear as desired.
