New Scrappy Double Four in Nine Patch Jacobs Ladder Quilt Block Variation
Hello Dear Friends and Readers. Welcome to todays post. I think you might really like today’s new scrappy quilt block. I do believe it is a New variation on the Jacob’s Ladder Quilt Block. I have been working on this for quite a while and am excited to share it with you all. It’s a way in which small and medium scraps can be combined into a very interesting yet simple block. There is lots of movement and opportunity to vary colours to create an eye catching quilt with secondary and tertiary designs emerging from the blocks. A wonderful way to use your collection of little scraps.
Are you ready for a new challenge? Maybe something to make over the holiday period. ….
Jacob’s Ladder is an old block with some biblical meanings which can also go by a number of different names depending on colour placement among other things. One of the things I like about it is the inevitable secondary designs which can occur muck like is found with Log Cabin blocks.
In the following link, you can read more about the Jacobs Ladder quilt block including other names it goes by.
Let’s get started.

To make the Half Square Triangle units. Rule a diagonal line across the back of the taupe squares. Lay each ome right side together with a white square. Sew a line 1/4” from the line on each side of the line. Use a rotary cutter and ruler to cut through the drawn line. Open each one to reveal four blocks. Trim the doggy ears and trim block to 4 1/2” x 4 1/2”.

Susie….I’m not sure how I came upon it, but I have a snapshot of your “Delft Blue Chaining Nine Patch” quilt, and fell in love with it! Yesterday I found the perfect blue fabric and would like to get the pattern and get started on the quilt! (You know how it is when you get excited about a project!)
So, today I located my photo and looked up your website (noted below my photo), but did not see this quilt in your list.
Please tell me how I can acquire the pattern.
I’ve just subscribed and am looking forward to following your site…..
Thanks so much,

I’ve been wanting to make a Jacob’s Ladder quilt for years! This has inspired me! I also love that Singer 66 you are sewing on, I just love the decal. I’d like to buy a nice one with this decal. So far the one’s I run across are not so nice.
I am 72 years old and really just started quilting. I am on my 3rd wall hanging make log cabin blocks. I thought I needed to start small. I have sewn most of my adult life, just not quilting. I won’t be able to do all the ones I want to, but will enjoy what I can do. I plan using scraps from dresses I made my granddaughter and other little girls I adopted to sew for to make blocks. Thank you for your videos. Jane Butler from Elizabethton, TN…
